Pregnancy & Postnatal Care

Clinic pathways to support all women to thrive in pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Thoughtful, evidence-informed midwifery support for pregnancy, birth, and the early postnatal period.

Clinic Pathways are structured midwifery consultations designed to meet you where you are. Each session offers unrushed time, clear clinical guidance, and space to work through decisions with confidence.

These appointments support clarity, preparation, and continuity across pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.

How clinic pathways work

Appointments are longer than standard care and intentionally unrushed. There is time to think, ask questions, and talk things through properly, without feeling hurried or talked over. The focus is on what is clinically relevant for you right now, with clear guidance, planning, and practical support.

You are at the centre of your care. Evidence informs the conversation, and your values and priorities guide decisions. These consultations are collaborative, practical, and grounded in respectful midwifery care.

Appointments are offered at The Gathering Space in Paddington, with telehealth available for selected pathways.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you book.

Each pathway reflects a common point of need, but they are not rigid or linear. Many women move between pathways as their pregnancy, birth planning, or postnatal needs unfold.

If you are unsure where to begin, start with the pathway that best matches what you need right now. We can adjust as we go.

Early Pregnancy Clarity Session

90 minutes

This is for you if you are:

  • Newly pregnant and unsure what to prioritise

  • Wanting to understand different models of maternity care and how they work

  • Exploring care providers and places of birth that align with your values, hopes, and desired experience

  • Navigating early screening and testing options

  • Wanting reassurance, clarity, or a second opinion

This session offers space to explore early pregnancy, understand different models of maternity care, and clarify your options so you can make informed choices that align with your values, preferences, and vision for birth.

It also provides practical support and guidance for the physical and emotional changes that often arise in the early weeks.

Hospital Birth Preparation Session

If you mostly want to understand how hospital birth works and what to expect, start here.

90 minutes

What actually happens in hospital birth, and how do we stay steady inside it?

This is an extended antenatal midwifery consultation for women planning a hospital birth who want clear, practical preparation tailored to their pregnancy and care context.

During this 90-minute session, we:

  • Review your current pregnancy and planned hospital care

  • Discuss how labour commonly unfolds in hospital settings

  • Explain admission processes, monitoring, pain relief options, and other common clinical pathways

  • Clarify how consent and decision-making typically occur

  • Explore how your support person can provide practical and emotional support

  • Identify what is within your influence and where flexibility may be important

The focus is on understanding the clinical and system context of hospital birth so that decisions feel less alarming and more informed in the moment.

This session is not a childbirth education course and does not replace routine antenatal care with your primary provider. If you are seeking detailed birth plan development or advocacy preparation, please book the Birth Planning & Advocacy Consultation.

Birth Planning & Advocacy Consultation

If you already understand how birth works and want help translating your values into a clear, flexible plan, book this session.

This session is for you if you are:

  • Wanting a personalised, values-aligned approach to birth planning

  • Navigating complex information, recommendations, or differing opinions

  • Preparing for conversations with your care team about preferences and options

  • Wanting clarity about informed consent and shared decision-making

  • Seeking a structured, realistic framework rather than a generic template

This is an extended antenatal midwifery consultation focused on translating your values and clinical context into a clear, flexible birth planning framework.

During the session, we:

  • Clarify your core values and priorities

  • Review your current pregnancy and relevant clinical factors

  • Identify likely decision points during labour and birth

  • Explore how consent, refusal, and negotiation typically unfold

  • Develop language and strategies that support clear, collaborative communication

  • Distinguish preferences from non-negotiables, and plans from outcomes

The aim is not to guarantee a particular birth outcome, but to support you to approach labour feeling informed, steady, and able to participate confidently in decisions as they arise.

This session does not replace routine antenatal care, and it is not ongoing advocacy or representation. If you are primarily seeking orientation to how hospital birth commonly unfolds, the Hospital Birth Preparation Session may be more appropriate.

Antenatal Midwifery Support

60 minutes

  • Have a specific question, symptom, result, or recommendation you want clarified

  • Would like a second opinion or clinical explanation

  • Need time to talk through changes in your pregnancy

  • Want focused midwifery support at any stage of pregnancy

This is a routine antenatal consultation that provides clinical discussion, reassurance, and decision support in the context of your current pregnancy.

During the session, we may:

  • Review symptoms or recent changes

  • Discuss test results or recommendations

  • Clarify what is normal variation and what requires follow-up

  • Explore options and next steps

  • Identify when referral or further investigation is appropriate

The focus is on clear explanation, defined next steps, and practical reassurance.

This appointment supports your existing maternity care and does not replace routine antenatal visits with your primary provider.

Clinical Birth Debrief & Future Planning

90-minute postnatal consultation

This session is for you if you are:

  • Wanting to understand what happened during your birth in clear clinical terms

  • Feeling confused about decisions, timing, or interventions

  • Preparing for a future pregnancy or birth

  • Seeking clarity and understanding rather than counselling or therapy

This is a structured postnatal midwifery consultation focused on reviewing your birth experience through a clinical and physiological lens.

During the session, we:

  • Reconstruct the timeline of your labour and birth

  • Clarify clinical decision points and contributing factors

  • Explain the reasoning behind interventions or changes in plan

  • Differentiate between outcome and meaning

  • Identify implications for recovery and future pregnancies

The aim is to reduce confusion or self-blame by increasing understanding.

This session is educational and reflective. It is not psychological therapy and does not replace mental health care where that is needed. If ongoing distress, trauma symptoms, or mood concerns are present, appropriate referral can be discussed.

Postnatal Care & Feeding Support

90-minute postnatal consultation

This session is for you if you are:

  • In the early weeks after birth (up to 6 weeks and 6 days postpartum)

  • Wanting practical, experienced support with feeding

  • Needing reassurance about recovery, bleeding, pain, or healing

  • Feeling unsettled, overwhelmed, or unsure what is normal

This is a structured postnatal midwifery consultation centred on the mother, while also addressing infant feeding and early adjustment.

During the session, we:

  • Assess maternal recovery, bleeding, pain, sleep, and physical healing

  • Screen emotional wellbeing and early postnatal adjustment

  • Review feeding patterns and challenges

  • Provide practical, hands-on guidance where appropriate

  • Clarify what is normal variation and what may need follow-up

  • Identify support gaps and next steps

The focus is steady, practical care that supports recovery and confidence in the early postnatal period.

This session does not replace emergency or urgent medical care. If concerns fall outside midwifery scope, appropriate referral will be discussed.

FAQ

  • These clinic and telehealth appointments are for women who want time, clarity, and individualised midwifery care during pregnancy or the early postnatal period.

They suit women who are seeking support outside standard appointment structures, who want to understand their options, prepare thoughtfully for birth, or receive postnatal care that centres the mother as well as the baby.

These appointments are not designed to replace emergency care, hospital antenatal clinics, or ongoing continuity midwifery care.

They may not be the right fit for women seeking on-call availability, birth attendance, or therapy-based support.

  • Some antenatal and postnatal midwifery consultations may attract a Medicare rebate when eligibility criteria are met.

Rebates apply when the appointment is delivered by an endorsed midwife and meets Medicare item requirements.

If applicable, Medicare rebates are processed after your appointment. If you are unsure about eligibility, you are welcome to ask before booking.

  • No referral is required to book clinic or telehealth appointments.

You can self-book directly for antenatal, postnatal, or planning consult.

  • Clinic and telehealth appointments are one-to-one clinical consultations with a registered and endorsed midwife.

They are different from group birth education or workshops. Sessions may include education, but they are grounded in clinical assessment, informed decision-making, and personalised care.

  • You can book a single appointment or return as needed. There is no requirement to commit to ongoing care unless you choose to.

Some women book one session for clarity, while others return at different points in pregnancy or the postnatal period.

  • Clinic and telehealth appointments are individual consultations and do not include on-call availability, birth attendance, or continuity of care.

Complete Midwifery Care refers to full continuity care for a limited number of caseload clients and is offered separately.

Sessions such as the Hospital Birth Navigation Session or Birth Planning & Advocacy Consultation are specifically designed to support informed decision-making, consent, and preparation within hospital systems.

  • Telehealth appointments work well for many concerns, including early pregnancy decision-making, birth planning, postnatal check-ins, feeding questions, and follow-up support. Some issues are best supported in person, and this can be discussed if needed.

  • Home visits are not available for general antenatal care.

Limited postnatal home visits may be offered by invitation as part of the Postnatal Support Pathway.

These are arranged by email rather than online booking.

  • Yes. Partners and support people are welcome to attend clinic or telehealth appointments if this feels helpful, particularly for birth preparation or planning consultations.

Appointments include screening for emotional wellbeing and space to talk things through. These sessions are not counselling or therapy, but referrals can be discussed if additional support is needed.

  • If you are unsure which session best suits your needs, you’re welcome to book an Early Pregnancy Clarity Session or contact me to ask. We can also adjust the focus once we meet.

  • In-person appointments are held at my clinic in Paddington, Sydney.

    Telehealth appointments are available Australia-wide.

  • Each appointment type has a set fee, which is listed alongside the booking options.
