Birth Education / Natural Birth in Hospital Workshop
Natural Birth in Hospital Workshop

A full day built entirely around having a natural birth in hospital.

You've said you want a natural birth and been met with a particular kind of nod. Supportive, slightly braced. As though you've asked for something that will need managing.

So you've started reading. Most of what you find is about birthing at home, or about breathing through it, or written by someone selling a method. Very little of it is about the building you're actually going to.

This day covers when to go in, what's routine and what's genuinely required, induction and going past your dates, staying upright and moving, pain relief discussed honestly, and how to carry your plan across a shift change.

Paddington Full day Max 4 families

I'm Jen, a Private Midwife in Sydney. I have been caring for women in birth and motherhood since 2007, across homebirth, hospital birth and the postnatal weeks.

This day is educational, not clinical. It sits alongside your own midwifery care rather than in place of it.

What the day covers

When to go in, and what can happen if you arrive before your body is ready.

How the room and the people in it can shape labour, and what helps you stay upright and moving.

How to tell routine from recommended or required care, and how to ask questions and make decisions.

How to carry your plan across a shift change without explaining yourself twice.

Pain relief, epidurals included, discussed honestly rather than as a test of your preparation.

Your support person's role, and the first hour after birth.

You will both be there for the full day. With no more than four couples, there is room for your questions and for making the information useful to your own birth.

Nobody can promise you a physiological birth, in hospital or anywhere else.

What a day like this can do is give you a real understanding of how birth works, what helps it do function well, what tends to get in its way, and what to do with any of it when you're standing in the room.
