Postnatal midwifery care, alongside whatever you already have

The weeks after birth are some of the most significant of your life, for you and your baby both. They deserve care that covers all of it.

I built my practice around this: real time, continuity with the same person throughout, and hands-on postnatal support, alongside public hospital care, private obstetric care, or GP shared care.

Built around the care you're already in

Private midwifery sits alongside whatever care you're already receiving. Here's how it helps, depending on your situation.

Public hospital care

You keep seeing me through the early weeks, with longer appointments and hands-on feeding support whenever you need it.

Private obstetric care

You get dedicated postnatal time alongside your obstetric care, a plan built with me before the birth, and appointments you don't have to wait weeks for.

GP or shared care

I'm one consistent point of contact through the early weeks, with continuity your other appointments aren't set up to give.

What private midwifery adds

Most appointments run 45 to 90 minutes, and can run longer, up to a 4 hour stint at home if needed. You see the same person throughout the early weeks, someone who already knows your birth and your baby. If something comes up before your next scheduled visit, a telehealth appointment is easy to book from home. You're not waiting weeks to be seen.

What I can help with directly

As an Endorsed Midwife, I can prescribe medication, order and review tests, and manage most of what comes up in recovery, including caesarean wound care. That covers your physical recovery, feeding, and your baby's wellbeing checks in the same appointment. If your baby is unwell, or something comes up outside pregnancy, birth, or the postnatal period, that's a GP or specialist referral.

How postnatal care works

Care centres on one Comprehensive Postnatal Consultation, followed by as much follow-up as you need, at home, in clinic, or by telehealth.

Already had your baby? You don't need to have done anything beforehand. Book your first postnatal appointment directly, whenever you're ready.

Fees and Medicare

Most appointments attract a standard Medicare rebate. You pay the full fee at the appointment and claim it back. This is usually done at the time of consultation and processed into your nominated account the next working day.

Appointment Length Fee Rebate Out of pocket
Comprehensive Postnatal Consultation 90 min $380 $166.80 $213.20
Postnatal Follow-Up 45 min $280 $111.20 $168.80
Extended In-Home Care 4 hours $800 $800

Home visits attract an $85 travel surcharge. Rebates shown are estimates, for full description see Medicare. Yours may be higher once your family's Medicare Safety Net threshold is reached.

An optional antenatal planning appointment runs from $185, with Medicare rebates applying. See full antenatal pricing →

Using private obstetric care? Many families are close to or over their Medicare Safety Net threshold by the time they've had a private pregnancy. Once you cross it, your rebates increase for the rest of the calendar year. Some women time additional postnatal appointments before the year resets in January to make the most of it. Check your own threshold via myGov. The free guide below walks through how this works.
